1st UIC2 Forum takes place on Wednesday 28th of November during Amsterdam Drone Week
First Forum of the UAM Initiative Cities Community (UIC2)
The First Forum of the UAM Initiative Cities Community (UIC2) of the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Initiative of the EIP-SCC is taking place on Wednesday the 28th of November, during Amsterdam Drone Week.
The morning session which is open to public where the participating Cities and Regions of the UAM Initiative will present their UAM ambitions and projects to the public. A panel with distinguished speakers will follow on smart city perspectives for putting urban mobility into the 3rd dimension. The panel presentations and roundtable will deal with the development of city-centric, citizens-driven drone, and U-space service solutions as part of smart mobility. Opportunities and challenges, to address unmet mobility user needs, for example in urban logistics and public, shared transport, and in mobility-as-a-service, will be discussed in the panel consisting of smart city/mobility stakeholders (private/public organisations and policy makers).
"Drones offer exciting opportunities for new services and business models, particularly in our cities. At the same time we need to ensure that drones operations taking place above our heads are safe, secure, quiet and clean." Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport.
The UAM Initiative is framed as a marketplace platform that targets the development of mobility demonstrators that feature the 3rd dimension. It involves several European cities/regions and a diversity of stakeholders to plan for future mobility by addressing relevant challenges and capturing opportunities.
The European Commission supports the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Initiative, which is part of the European Innovation Partnership in Smart Cities and Communities, because it scales up investment in demonstrators and contributes to the European Network U-Space Demonstrators to be launched on the 19th of October. The latter is a flag-ship project of the European Union to manage air traffic at low levels. Drones and U-space services have the potential to create fast evolving investment opportunities for European companies.
The afternoon session (invitation-only) will be closed to the participating cities/regions of the UAM Initiative and will deal with the preparation of their mobility demonstrators.
