When MaaS falls into place

Wednesday, 22 August 2018

Intertraffic is a leading B2B traffic industry event taking place at RAI Amsterdam and connects traffic professionals worldwide. Richard Butter, director of traffic technology at RAI Amsterdam is responsible for Intertraffic worldwide events. Richard frequently writes about his view on the market and recently wrote a blogpost on Mobility as a Service (MaaS). Mobility as a Service and Smart cities are key topics for us and Smart Mobility is one of the pillars that Amsterdam Drone Week is built on.

One tech platform for all transportation

Autonomous cars and drones are the future for large cities and Sense and avoid technology is being explored and perfected as we speak. And on-demand mobility already makes our cities smarter, better and more efficient. But what does MaaS really mean for cities? What are the necessary steps to build the right framework and what if municipalities could monetise their airspace? In the article below Richard mentions carsharing, a key component of MaaS and states that “The ambitious outcome of MaaS could lead to private cars being prohibited from city centers as soon as 2025 – although in order for this to happen, those living in, or visiting, cities must be getting a better, more usable transportation service, not an inferior one. One that enables them to choose exactly what they want, when they want it.”

A technology platform that encompasses all forms of transportation is the future of our cities. It’s not a question of whether this will happen, but when we will be ready.
