Hyundai revealed its S-A1 air taxi at CES 2020 in Las Vegas last Tuesday. The company is joining the Uber’s Elevate Initiative and is “the first vehicle partner with capabilities to manufacture at automotive scale”. According to Eric Allison, Head of Uber Elevate, Uber is positive that Hyundai has the potential to build Uber air taxis at rates that are not possible in the aerospace industry, envisioning the launch of air taxis at a global scale.
The air taxi will offer four seats and is optimized for Uber’s urban air mobility mission. The target cruise speed is estimated at 290 miles per hour (180 miles per hour) an has a projected range of 100 kilometers (60 miles). Moreover, the S-A1 will be ‘up and running’ again after a recharging time of five to seven minutes during peak operating hours.
